EARTHQUAKES!

HEY, what was that?? Our whole house is shaking and lamps are falling off tables ... AGAIN!! Lucy is hiding in the closet, but my human artist explained to the rest of us that this was the second earthquake we've had this morning, the first one 5.4 magnitude, and we've had 12 aftershocks so far. It was caused by the Wabash Valley Fault, which runs under the Wabash River, just down the street from our house!

Did any of our midwest friends feel it? Are you all okay? We don't like it and want it to STOP! Here are some news reports:
Now, while my whole staff is running around with dilated pupils whapping each other because they're freaked, my weirdo human is sweeping stuff off the floor, singing Carole King lyrics ...

I feel the earth move under my feet,
I feel the sky tumblin' down ... tumblin' down ... tumblin' down ...

  1. Rocky, I am SO sorry! The news this morning said that we could feel it all the way over here in Atlanta, but I have to admit we all slept through it so I wouldn't know.

  18. Rocky, we felt the earthquake here in St. Louis. Our dresser mirror started shaking and making a lot of noise, and it scared us so much we all ran out of the bedroom. Then when momma was at work she felt a second one that moved her chair. It was scary! We hope all of you are okay ... we are.

  21. Oh no, Oh no! I do not fink that earthquakes are any fun! I do not have them here in Florida, but I imagine they are only about as much fun as our hurricanes...acourse I has not been alive for a hurricane yet, but I has heard stories!

("freaked" staff is better than hurted staff.) thank goo'ness that's all they are. we hopes the beans gets all the broke stuff cleaned up soon so there are no hurty paws or feets. "shake, rattle, an' roll" was a popular song when our mom was a kidlet--we bets you guys don't like the real thing quite as much!

we din't feel nuthin' here in new madrid country, although mom got up to go to the litterbox room about that time. but there's nuthin' unusual in that. if she doesn't get up then for that, she gets up acause nitro's internal food alarm went off an' he's rattlin' the door;-) someday, she's gonna rattle him!

  34. Sorry the earthquake was so scary for all of you. But glad you're all ok.

5.4 is actually a pretty respectable - about the size of the one in San Jose last year. I guess we get used to them out here.

  38. I read there was another aftershock and this is the first chance I've gotten to check in on you. I'm glad you're all physically OK.

    Bendrix wants to say something:
Hey Artsy Catsy cats, this is a prime opportunity for whapping. You see, if, when the ground shakes, you whap whatever you want to the floor, the beans won't be able to blame you. They'll blame the earth shaking. Just a little suggestion from me to you...

Anyway, we're both glad you're all OK and we hope the ground never shakes again (Bendrix: after a good whapping session of course)
