Rocky here, with the whole staff to greet all our dear friends! Please forgive us for dropping out of sight ... but I want you to know it wasn't we cats' fault ... the human artists were the problem! We faithful felines would never abandon you like this for a whole month!
There are so-o-o-o many things to tell you -- both sad and happy -- but rather than wear out my big pink paws and give you all eyestrain, I'll start with one thing today and continue the sorry saga tomorrow.
Sad stuff first ... The humans disrupted everything for two weeks with their dillydallying around about the gigantic toppling catalpa tree in our backyard. (Since they insist on calling me "RockyBlocky", I've renamed Sharolyn and Suzanne "Dilly" and "Dally".)
Finally I put down my paw and hissed, "Hey, Dilly & Dally, stop sitting around wringing your hands over the $2,000 estimates, bite the bullet and down the darned tree before it wipes us all out and we'll NEVER blog again!!" So finally on Aug. 12 they did ... and for two terrible days we had a thundering yard full of bucket trucks and dump trucks and cranes and chippers and chain saws.
After the tree was gone, the humans went into a depression because the tree was over 100 years old and their mama loved that tree and now there's no shade in the yard and the lawn is fried. And without the tree we can't sleep because the streetlights blind us in bed at night and the sun scorches us during the day.

It really is sad ... look at all the shade in our yard in May, before that second bolt of lightning hit our tree ... And at the end of the catalpa's demise, we were left with this ....
Now that I have everyone thoroughly depressed, including myself, I'll wait until tomorrow to tell you about all the fleas and the ferals and the calf that went over the Bridge ... then it's on to the good, happy news .... I promise!

I'm happy yer bak, but NO MORE BAD NEWS THIS WEEK, pleeze. It's bin a ruff one.
Sorry bout da tree, we know how dat is. We useta haf a big tree dat gave grate shade...den it fell on our garage during a storm. Dad sed bad words, mom sed even badder word den mom's brofurs came and dad got out da chainsaw and now...no tree and no shade. But there's a nice stump dat Zippy sits on and talks to Oliver (the naybor cat) from.
That is horrible. Where you will you sit to sun yourself out of direct sunlight now?
Welcome back! Sorry about the lovely tree, that is really too bad, but it sounded like it really needed to come down.
Tara
I'm sorry to hear that you lost that beautiful, old tree. But your yard will look lovely again in time. Yards are so tiny here in Germany that we wouldn't have room for a huge tree like that!
Sad news about the twee.
Gweat that you guys are back in action again though!
That is awful news. Losing a great tree and then not having any shade. That sux.
But - WELCOME BACK!
That sure was a giant and beautiful old tree. But now you can pick out a special tree to plant in it's place and watch it grow up!
Oh gosh, too bad to lose a big tree like that. But way better than it landing on yall!
We're furry glad to see yall are bak. (It's always the human's fault, we know that. hehehe)

Wow, Rocky! that was some big tree. I'm glad that's over and doubly glad that you and your cat staff are back with us. Purrs!
Welcome back! Sorry about the tree. Mommy sayz it is sad when a staple like that has to be removed. Her parents had to remove the maple in their back yard and even tho she and her brother don't even live there anymore, they were bummed.
I can't wait to hear all you've been up to. Poor calf. I hope the ferals are OK.
Sorry you had to come back during such a sad time on the blogosphere. Three kitties in one week over the Bridge. We are very sad, but remembering all the friends we still have.
We'll be back to posting regularly next week!
Well, bad news about your backyard but sure is good to see you again, Rocky!
Purrrrrrrrs, China Cat & Willow
That was a big tree, and I am sure the noise was awful!
We have missed you all so much! Very sad about the tree though.

Yayyyy yer back!! We missed yoo. Sorry about yer tree, but it's better yer peepull had it taken down, rather than it falls on yoo.Mebbe yoo can git them to plant some bushes yoo can lie unner.
Welcome back! I am truly sorry about your wonderful old tree. It had to be done, though.
Welcome back! Do you have any good climbing or shade trees left? So sad! You can come over to my place. We have good shade.
Oh no, we can't stand losing trees! We have two giant ones in our front yard and we would just croak if something happened to them. In fact, when Mom bought the house she thought a pretty big tree on the side was just dormant (it was March) and was terribly bummed to learn it was actually dead. Doves liked to sit on it anyway so it took her eons to make the decision to have it cut down...and only because she was afraid with our awful winds it would fall in the road and hurt someone. We're sorry yours is gone.
oh my oh my meow...what a messy job.. but mom looks like she is supervizing it well...is all your fur in tact? and I thought our yard got messy when mom put the pond in??? tisk tisk...oh got to jump I think I see a mouse...meow..
I can see why you & your beans would be depressed over that tree. But better safe than sorry!
Hugs,
Lux
oh no - poor tree! but if the lightning got it, then it had to be done. where are the fev-vers gonna sit now? ::sigh::
Are you going to get a new tree that will last for 100 years? FAZ
Welcome back!
I know you'll all miss your tree. Grandpa and Grandma and Mom and my Daddy and most of that side of the family spent many years in the tree removal business. In fact, Grandma and Grandpa still do stump grinding and wood chipping and even some full tree removal even though they're in their 70s. But ... while they know it's sometimes necessary, they usually feel bad when it's a live tree.
In this case they would say it's a good thing your humans went ahead and had the work done. After lightning strikes and with that big hole in the trunk that tree was a major accident waiting to happen. Mom says even though you're understandably sad this is really good news that the tree is down without doing any damage or hurting someone.
Now I can't wait to hear the other good news.
That's too bad bout the tree. I'm always sorry to see a nice old tree go away. We gots kinda big trees but they's not 100 years old.
