We've been honored!

We want to thank our new kitty friends Jackie, Gidget and Fritz, and their woofies Abby and Rosie, for featuring Artsy Catsy today on two of their mom's wonderful blogs: Catnip Corner and The Dog Log!

Catnip Corner was started by their mombean after she switched them to an all natural diet and saw a dramatic improvement in their health. Her interesting blog discusses kitty health, safety, adoption and rescue. The Dog Log is about woofie health, and she also has a third blog about human health, Living Well.

We invite all our kitty, woofie and bean friends to read the nice things our new friends said about us, and to read their very informative blogs. You might even want to email your stories to Jackie, Gidget and Fritz, because they feature stories about rescued kitties with happy endings!

Meezer & Manx Mancats

Ivan: Rocky is a blog hog! Oscar and I are taking over our blog and declaring today Meezer & Manx Mancat Monday, so we can introduce the featured Rescue Farm kitty for adoption that Rocky was supposed to do on Saturday Adopt-a-Caturday!
Oscar: Right on, Ivan! Just because Rocky has a tail, he thinks he can speak for us. Personally, I think tails are a nuisance - just something else to be washed, and wagged all the time - what a bother!
That's why I'm honored to introduce this week's Rescue Farm kitty who needs a loving, furever home ... the tail-less wonder ....
Yogi

Yogi is a 3-4 year old sweet boy who came to the Rescue Farm with a tumor on his tail. The vet was worried about it spreading, so his tail was removed last week to make sure that Yogi will live a long, wonderful life!

Yogi loves other cats, and he loves kids, and he would be a really great footwarmer on these cold winter nights. Why? Because he weighs 18 pounds!

This gorgeous guy is neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea-treated, and is Felv/FIV negative. And without that bothersome tail, he’s perfect, don’t you think? And guess what? You can see Yogi in loving action in his own video here (before his tailectomy)

His adoption fee is $60. If you know someone who would love to give Yogi a furever home, please email Jodi at the Rescue Farm!

Seven Weird Things About Us

Rocky: I've been tagged by Feline Talk to reveal "7 Weird Things About Me" but, since Artsy Catsy is a group effort, I'm going to let some of my staff participate with me in this meme.

The rules are: Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog. Share seven random weird facts about yourself. Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

7 Weird Things About Us:

1) Rocky: I bite for no reason whatsoever. My humans say this is because I was only 1 day old when I was rescued, and since I was bottle-fed and had no siblings, I didn't learn from a mamacat not to bite hard, and didn't learn proper social behavior from siblings.

2) Fracas: I talk ALL the time! When I was rescued as a kitten from underneath a truck where I had been riding around screaming all day, I lost my voice completely for two weeks. So now I have to test it continually to make sure it's still there.

3) Rocky: I still like to hit the bottle now and then. When my human fills a kitten bottle with KMR, my pupils dilate, I drool, and curl up in her lap and nurse.

4) Callie: I never had kittens of my own, so I have litters of rolled-up pairs of socks that I move from place to place throughout the house while making loud, gargling, yowling sounds.

5) Rocky: I'm the alpha cat here, and I'm not afraid of anything ... except riding in the car, the oven door, invisible things on the couch, the hair dryer, the vacuum cleaner, a dry navy bean dropped on the floor ....

6) Fracas: The very tip of my tail kinks at a right angle.

7) Holly: I stand on my hind legs all the time, in perfect meercat posture.

Now, we tag these seven kitties:

Sleepy Saturday

It's a sleepy Saturday here, cold and dreary outside and warm and snuggly inside: I'm dreaming about Temptations, but my human artist is missing her daughter Tiffany and dreaming about being in Italy. This is the village of Bracciano, where Tiffany lived before she moved into Rome. The castle is where Tom Cruise got married, and Tiffany's apartment, built in 1492, was part of the castle:
She's dreaming about the time she gazed in awe at the ceiling of the Pantheon in Rome:

This is what she was gazing at:

She's dreaming about how even McDonald's was beautiful in Rome! Just look at those arches:

Okay, that's enough of my human's dream. I'm going back to dreams about McTemptations!

13 Things Humans May Say to Cats

1) We will allow you to say “Calm down, you crepuscular maniac!” because the reason we get the “night crazies” is that we’re crepuscular mammals, meaning we’re most active at twilight. We share this trait with rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs … and vishus deer!

2) You may refer to us as your “Digitigrade darlings” because we are just that. A digitigrade is an animal that walks on its toes. We share this trait with woofies, but not humans. You humans, like bears, are plantigrades – you clunk around on the soles of your feet.

3) You may call us your “Loose-skinned lovebugs” because we do have very loose skin. This allows us to turn easily inside our own skin when you humans, or another cat, or a predator has a grip on us. It also lets our catmoms carry us around by the scruff of our necks. (Hint: massaging the loose skin on the scruffs of our necks is very soothing for us.)

4) You may request “Don’t get your vibrissae in an uproar” because we do, in fact, have dozens of movable vibrissae (whiskers) not just on our faces, but all over our bodies, and they are prone to stand up straight when we get rattled.

5) We will tolerate your occasional shriek for us to “You obligate carnivore, get off that counter!” when we stalk your ham or chicken. But you must understand that as obligate carnivores, our teeth, our digestive systems and our entire physiology makes us meat eaters and lacks efficient processes for digesting plant matter. That’s why we yack up grass.

6) When we refuse to eat, you may order us to “Get your vomeronasal organ off its high horse” even though we’ll ignore you. Our vomeronasal organ, or Jacobson’s organ in the roofs of our mouths, sometimes gets used to the smell of the same food over and over again, and it wants to be excited by something new. This same organ gets excited when we smell something interesting and start doing that open-mouthed sniffing thing.

7) We will permit you to call us “squirrelly” because squirrels and cats are the only mammals who can survive a fall at terminal velocity. This is because we have flexible spines, no collar bones and a righting reflex, letting us land on our feet. However, don’t ask us to try this at home, because we don’t always land unharmed!

8) We will ignore your occasional “Oh no, I see your membrana nictitans!” because you’re being anatomically correct. Our membrane nictitans (nictitating membrane) is our third eyelid. Don’t be alarmed; it doesn’t always mean we’re sick – we could just be happy or trying to take a nap. We use our third eyelid to clean dirt & junk off our big eyes, and to block out light. We see better than people in the dark, so we need that third eyelid to catnap all day in the daytime!

9) We will also overlook at times “You bonehead!” because we do, in fact, have 29 bones in our skulls and you poor humans have only 22. This could possibly be because our brains are more worth protecting than yours!

10) You may say “You think you’re hot stuff, don’t you?” because we are hot stuff compared to you. Our normal body temperature is 101.5, while yours is only 98.6.

11) You can call us “wildcats” when we run through the house with our tails pointed in the air, but you would be wrong, as usual. We domestic cats are the only cat species than can hold its tail upright when walking or running. Wild cats either tuck them between their legs or hold them straight out.

12) You may call us “picky eaters” but you would be wrong again. Domestic cats can hunt and eat about 1,000 different species; big cats eat fewer than 100.

13) We don’t mind at all if you call us “hepetalactone addicts.” This is a good thing! The catnip plant contains an oil called hepetalactone which does for us what marijuana does to humans. Just be sure to keep lots of Temptations on hand for when we get the munchies!

My Vice President, Fracas, and I are helping to clean up the mess we made with our midnight nip champagne toast last night at Dr. Tweety's Grand New Yearz Eve Partee. What a great party, and it was so nice to ring in 2008 with so many friends! Thank you, Dr. Tweety -- you're a party host extraordinaire!!

We want to wish all our beloved kitty & bean friends the very Happiest New Year ever! May we all cherish the past, live today and dream tomorrow!

Recipe for a Happy New Year

To leave the old with a burst of song
To recall the rights and forgive the wrong;
To forgive the thing that binds you fast
To the vain regrets of the year that's past;

To have the strength to let go your hold
Of the non-worthwhile of the days grown old;
To dare to go forth with a purpose true;
To the unknown task of the year that's new,

To help your brother along the road
To do his work and lift his load;
To add your gift to the world's good cheer,
Is to have and to give a Happy New Year!

~~ Love, hugs & purrs from all of us at Artsy Catsy
